What is PayHinga?

Hi there, luv! PayHinga is an add-on service provided by Tonik for borrowers going through tough times.

With PayHinga, customers can take a break from paying off their loan, for as long as one month, by pushing the payment schedule back. Plus, PayHinga comes with Credit Life Insurance provided by Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. XOXO

Is there an additional fee for availing PayHinga?

Hi there, luv! If you opt into PayHinga, you'll need to pay an extra fee equal to 9.11% of your monthly loan installment. This goes for all our loans!

This fee must be paid regardless of whether you activate PayHinga or not. XOXO

Can I opt into PayHinga after I've already disbursed my loan?

Sorry, luv! You can only choose to opt into PayHinga while applying for your loan. If your loan is already ongoing, you cannot add the PayHinga service. XOXO

When can I start activating PayHinga?

Hi there, luv! You can only activate one month of PayHinga once you've made 3 consecutive monthly installments on-time.

But remember, if you're late for a payment, you'll have to start over again. No worries, though! As soon as you pay on time, you can start using PayHinga once more.

Just a heads up, you can only activate PayHinga BEFORE your due date.

To see if you're eligible to activate PayHinga, check the PayHinga card in your loan dashboard. Hope this helps! XOXO

How do I activate PayHinga?

Hi there, luv! To activate PayHinga, just go into your loan dashboard, tap the PayHinga card and follow the instructions. XOXO

I've activated my PayHinga. Now what?

Hi there, luv! You can take your next scheduled due date off.

But remember: This just means that your entire payment schedule is pushed back. There is no free/waived payment.

For example, if your next due date was supposed to be on June 1, it'll be pushed back to July 1 instead. Naturally, the rest of your payments will also be pushed back by a month. Hope this helps! XOXO

Will interest keep accruing during my PayHinga period?

No, luv. Interest will not build up during your PayHinga period. XOXO

Can I close my loan while I'm still on my PayHinga period?

Hi there, luv! Yes. You can fully pay off your loan while you're still on your PayHinga period. XOXO

Can I deactivate my PayHinga early?

No, luv. You need to wait for your next scheduled due date to deactivate PayHinga. XOXO

I don't think I need PayHinga anymore. Can I opt out of paying it?

Hi there, luv! Once you've agreed to opt into PayHinga, it will be part of your monthly payments until you've finished paying off your loan. XOXO

What is Sun Life Grepa Financial’s (Sun Life Grepa) Credit Group Life (CGL) and Credit Group Disability (CGD) Insurance?

Creditor Group Life  is a group term insurance issued to a creditor covering the lives of its borrowers in an amount based on the original or outstanding loan balance. In the event of death of the borrower before the loan is fully repaid, Sun Life Grepa pays the CGL coverage to the creditor/group policyholder. Any excess benefit shall be paid to the borrower’s designated beneficiaries. 

Credit Group Disability is a supplementary benefit attached to the CGL Insurance. The CGD benefit is paid to the creditor in case of the borrower’s total and permanent disability, for an amount based on the original or outstanding loan balance Any excess benefit shall likewise be paid to the borrower’s designated beneficiaries.

How can I benefit from Credit Life and Credit Disability Insurance?

The insurance plan pays the borrower's outstanding loan balance in the event of death or total disability. It also protects the family members and loved ones of the deceased or permanently disabled borrower from any financial obligations or burdens that can be transferred to the estate of the deceased borrower.

How much will be my insurance coverage?

Hi there, luv! Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. provides coverage for 120% of your loan amount. That means if your loan is for P10,000, then your insurance coverage amounts to P12,000.

Who is eligible to enroll in Credit Life and Credit Disability Insurance?

All Tonik customers who are in good health and provided they are at least 18 years old but not more than 58 yrs., who met the minimum loan amount and have complied with the declaration form shall be eligible to enroll in the plan. However, members who are in military naval or air service or those who are engaged in hazardous activities like deep-sea diving, mountain climbing, and underground mining are not eligible to participate.

How will I pay for the insurance premium?

Hi there, luv! The insurance premium is already part of your PayHinga fee. No need to worry about additional fees. XOXO

What is in my insurance health declaration?

Hi there, luv! Here's what's inside your insurance health declaration.

 

You are

(i) between eighteen (18) to sixty-five (58) years old;

(ii) physically and mentally healthy;

(iii) have never had any congenital birth disease, heart disease, high blood pressure, lung or kidney ailment, tumor, mass or cancer or any other physical impairment;

(iv) have not undergone operations, any medical procedure, including surgical diagnostic procedures nor have been hospitalized; and

(v) have not been treated for any illness in the past twelve (12) months.

When will I be covered by insurance?

Hi there, luv! If you opt into PayHinga, you'll be covered from the moment your loan is disbursed until you fully pay it off. You'll receive an SMS notification from Tonik confirming your coverage.

To make sure you're covered by the insurance, it's essential to keep up with your loan payments. If you fall behind on your loan, you might not be covered by Sun Life.

Your insurance will automatically end on the earliest of these dates:

• The date specified in the Termination of Debtor's Insurance section of the Policy;

• the end of the grace period for which premium remains unpaid to SLGFI for this benefit; or

• the day you turn 59 years old.

When will my CGL and CGD insurance coverage end?

A borrower's insurance with respect to any indebtedness shall terminate on the earliest of: 

a. the date the group Policy terminates; 
b. the date the loan is completely discharged by payment or by renewal or refinancing prior to the scheduled maturity dates; 
c. the date the borrower's installment payments on the indebtedness becomes in default for more than 3 months; 
d. the date ownership of the loan is transferred or assigned to a creditor other than Tonik named herein; 
e. the end of the period for which premiums are paid to Sun Life Grepa for the borrower's insurance on the indebtedness 
f. the date Tonik advises Sun Life Grepa of the termination of the borrower's insurance on the indebtedness; or 
g. the date the borrower attains age of [59]

Will I be receiving any proof of insurance coverage?

Hi there, luv! You may access your proof of cover under the loan information page in your Tonik App. XOXO

Can I buy multiple insurance policies?

No, luv. Your insurance coverage is bundled together with PayHinga and only one PayHinga is allowed per customer per loan. Thanks for understanding! XOXO

Can I cancel my insurance?

Hi there, luv! As much as we want you to enjoy the benefits of your plan, you may still cancel your plan provided that there are no claims made on your account within the policy period.

You may request for cancellation with the Tonik Bank Customer Service at customercare@tonikbank.com or by telephone at +63 2 5322 2645.

But please note that since your insurance coverage is part of the PayHinga package, you’ll still be charged the entire PayHinga fee even if you’ve cancelled your insurance plan. XOXO

How can I make a claim on my insurance?

The borrower or the beneficiary(ies) may call Sun Life Grepa at the contact details below for guidance on the claims process and requirements needed to be submitted and reviewed.

Written notice of claim must be given to Sun Life (SLGFI) while the Debtor is disabled. The notice must be given with sufficient details at any of our offices. SLGFI must receive satisfactory proof within ninety (90) days from the date notice is given to us. Failure to submit written notice and proof of claim within such time shall not invalidate or reduce any claim if it shall be shown not to have been reasonably possible to give such notice within the required time and that proof was submitted as soon as was reasonably possible. SLGFI may require medical examinations by one or more examiners of its choice as part of proof. SLGFI may require proof [i.e. Statement of Account/Loan Ledger] to establish the amount of the Outstanding Indebtedness.

What are the basic claim requirements of Credit Life and Credit Disability Insurance?

Hi there, luv! The Standard requirements for Credit Life insurance are the following:

  a. Original Sun Life Grepa Financial Inc (SLGFI) Claimant’s Statement Death Benefit Form  to be accomplished by the beneficiary who is 18 years old or above; if below 18, by the guardian
  b. Original PSA Copy or Original Certified True Copy  of Death Certificate with seal and issued by the Local Civil Registrar 
  c. Photocopy of Birth Certificate of insured. Any one of the substitute Documents in the absence of Birth Certificate (photocopy):

      - Baptismal Certificate
      - Government Issued IDs
      - Marriage Contract
      - Voter’s Registration Record
      - Birth Certificate of Children
      - Other public documents with date of birth of insured

  d. Photocopy Government issued IDs of insured  
  e. Photocopy of Loan Ledger certified as correct by an authorized officer 
  f. Supporting documents if with beneficiary share : 


Meanwhile, standard requirements for Credit Disability Insurance are the following:

     o    Original Sunlife Grepa Financial Inc (SLGFI) Claimant’s Statement Form (Disability) 
     o    Original SLGFI Attending Physician’s Statement Form (Disability)
     o    Original SLGFI Employer’s Statement form (Disability)
     o    Certified True Copy Complete Medical Records 
     o    Admitting history, In-patient/Clinic/Out-Patient records
     o    Neurological Exam for stroke Patients
     o    Schedule of Dialysis for chronic kidney disease
     o    Police report (in case of accident)
     o    record for the last six (6) months

How long is the turn-around time for the release of claims once all the claims' documents are completed and submitted?

Hi there, luv! The standard processing time is 14 working days.

However, if the claims made within 1 year from the date of enrollment are contestable, the processing time may be longer. XOXO

Who will be the beneficiary of an insurance claim made by me?

Proceeds from approved insurance claims shall first be used to pay off any unpaid balance on your loan. 

Any proceeds in excess of said balance shall be given to your lawful beneficiary/ies following hierarchy of beneficiary(s).

Please see below for additional information and requirements based on the heirarchy of beneficiaries.

  • Original CENOMAR of insured from PSA 

  • Original and notarized Affidavit of Extra Judicial Settlement (EJS) to be executed by all the legal heirs (children) of insured together with their Birth Certificate, Claimant's statement form and marriage contract, if married. If minors, to be represented by their mother. Please include in the EJS the phrase “We are the only compulsory legal heirs”. This is in accordance with Rule 74 Sec 1, Rules of Court 

  1. If Single (parents are living) 

  • Original CENOMAR of insured from PSA 

  • Original Claimant’s Statement form of parents 

  • If one is deceased, original certificate true copy of their death certificate duly signed and authenticated by LCR with dry seal or docs stamp. 

  • Or Original and notarized Affidavit of Waiver if one parent is willing to waive her/his rights 

  1. If Single (parents are both deceased) 

  • Original CENOMAR of insured from PSA 

  • Original certified true copy of their death certificate duly signed and authenticated by LCR with dry seal or docs stamp. 

  • Original and notarized Affidavit of Extra Judicial Settlement (EJS) to be executed by all the legal heirs (children) of insured together with their Birth Certificate, Claimant's statement form and marriage contract, if married. Are there any exclusions not covered by Credit Life Insurance?

Hi there, luv! The Credit Group Life Insurance benefit shall not be paid in case the borrower’s death is due to suicide less than one year after the effective date or reinstatement date of his/her insurance. In such cases, Sun Life Grepa shall refund all the premiums paid by the member/borrower with respect to the insurance.

Are there any exclusions not covered by Credit Disability Insurance?

Hi there, luv! CGD does not cover Total and Permanent Disability resulting from:

  1. self-inflicted injuries; or
  2. insurrection, civil commotion, or hostile action of armed forces, whether or not the Debtor was actually participating therein; or
  3. lasting less than six (6) whole months or is not expected to continue during the remaining lifetime of the Debtor, except for:
    1. entire and irrecoverable loss of sight in both eyes; or
    2. severance of both hands at or above the wrists, or both feet at or above the ankle joints, or one hand at or above the wrist and one foot at or above the ankle joint; so that the Debtor is prevented from performing the material and substantial duties of any occupation for wage or profit; or
  4. injury sustained before applying to this benefit or any pre-existing or recurring illness, which the Debtor contracted prior to the date in which this benefit is attached to the Debtor’s life insurance coverage, became in force, or if later, the date of last reinstatement.
  5. drug or alcohol abuse; or
  6. [mental and nervous conditions]; or
  7. committing or attempting to commit any crime, felony or other illegal act

I'm not interested in PayHinga. Can I opt out of it?

Yes, luv! You can choose to toggle off PayHinga before applying for your loan.

 

However, once your loan has been approved and disbursed, you can no longer opt out. XOXO

How will I know that I am already covered by insurance after opting into PayHinga

Hi there, luv! Once you've successfully applied to our PayHinga service, you will be notified via SMS that your insurance converage has already started and that the Proof of Cover is already available in the Tonik App.

(PayHinga for Exclusive Loan Offer) How does Payhinga work for my Reloan or Flex Up Loan?

PayHinga is a value-added service that allows you to push your payment schedule back for as long as one month! Not only that, but it also comes with Credit Life Insurance provided by Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc.

If you’ve activated PayHinga for our Tonik Credit Builder and/or Shop Installment Loan, it’s similar to that!

(PayHinga for Exclusive Loan Offer) Are there differences between the PayHinga fee that I paid in my Credit Builder or Shop Installment Loan, and the PayHinga fee in my Reloan or Flex Up Loan?​

Hi there, luv! If you opt into PayHinga when you accept our Reloan and Flex Up offer, you'll pay the same PayHinga fee of 9.11% of your monthly loan installment. ​

This fee must be paid, whether or not you activate PayHinga, for the duration of your loan. XOXO

(PayHinga for Exclusive Loan Offer) I availed of PayHinga in my previous loan. How come I don't see it included in my Reloan or Flex Up offer?

Hi there, luv! Our insurance partner, Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc. offers Credit Group Life and Credit Disability insurances only for customers aged 59 and below. This doesn't stop us from giving you a loan offer you can't resist. XOXO​
